How do I start a model Train Set?

I would like to start a model train set. I would like to know where i can start and where i can find trains/layout/tracks and general costs. I would prefer the smaller ones to the bigger ones, but i would like information on both

  1. You can pick up copies of Model Railroader magazine or Railroad Model Craftsman magazine at the bookstore. Read these for a little while to get some ideas about the hobby. There are also lots of ads for motive power (engines), rolling stock (cars), track, structures, and scenery, so you will get a good idea of costs.

    There are also layout ideas, construction tips, and historical pieces for reference.

    It is a great hobby, because it has so many facets.
