I want to paint a model train, it’s plastic. I was wondering what is the best paint to use?

  1. Most craft and hobby stores will have model paint. You’ll get the best results using spray paint. Disassemble the train and use a coat hanger to make it easier to handle the parts you want to paint and not get paint on you. If the model is already painted you will want to prep it so that the old paint won’t show through in particular old lettering. You can remove old paint with brake fluid before painting or just prime the whole thing with a gray paint first. If you aren’t near a store that has model paint you can use most spray paints just make sure they are compatible with plastic as lacquers will craze the plastic.

  3. Krylon has spray paint that works well with plastic.
Any acrylic paint should work well to if you seal it first.
