Very Nice, doesn’t the train, or tracks get ruined if it rains or snow?

No, it’s all wheather proof. The tracks oxidate if you don’t use them and electricity can’t get to the wheels of the loco. I’ve got a special cleaning train.
In winter, live steam of course needs no cleaning as the loco is completely independent from the tracks. A video with some live-steam action will follow. At the moment, it is very dark here, so a video won’t look good.)

My outdoor track gets lots of weeds requiring weeding at least every two weeks from spring through fall. Have you found a way to keep weeds from sprouting all the time?

You need to put a thick plastic foil underneath the tracks and the gravel (for example one for garden ponds, but also cheaper stuff is possible). It is important to choose a foil which is NOT permeable (lets water pass). This way, weeds don’t get enough water from the soil underneath. The only plant here which has enough energy to somehow find a way through the gaps of the overlapping peaces of foil is the common horsetail (Acker-Schachtelhalm).

Do NOT use the permeable foil sold by garden shops as weed-stopping foil, I had a try now in some parts of the track when I changed the design and weeds are growing all over these parts.

I have used roofing shingles and now plan to use 16′L X 8″ W X 1″ Thick cement board under track on soft ground and under switches. This ground has so much water, soil under sidewalks is still wet except in the hottest parts of summer.

Using the LGB cleaning loco and sometimes manually with a common cleaning rubber (f.e. from Roco or in case of severe oxidation any sand paper which is not that abrasive). Actually the worst thing is grass rolled over by the trains. As my tracks are separated from the lawn, I don’t have any trouble of that kind.
In case you mean the lack of wheeds: It’s a matter of the plastic foil used underneath the gravel. Look for something that does not permit humidity to pass!

thanks i have been wanting to get a lgb track cleaning loco but didn’t know if it was really very effective at cleaning the track. i have been having alot of trouble with keeping my track clean, i seem to have 2 clean it with a sand paper very often,the only problem is that the only place that sells lgb around my area has a waiting list for track cleaninglocos so far there is 12 on it and if i order now i will be at the very bottom.

Use it together with another loco in front (connected electrically). That way it will never stop and you can do several laps to get the tracks clean. If you’ve got serious trouble (for example with resin from trees), make the cleaning engine run the other way (not against the running direction of the loco). This will save some lifetime of the engine.
