HO, there are a plethora of items available on the net,Vintage TYCO is my personal preference.

If you have the space HO scale is the way to go, it has a much wider variety of accessories available then N scale. As for the brand my preference would be Bachmann, however if your Train set turns in to a Train Layout you will probably end up with higher end manufactures locomotives such as Atlas, Kato or Bachmanns Spectrum line.

It depends on how much space you have for the setup. We have a 4′ X 12′ table with HO scale and there is plenty of room for bridges, towns and mountains. I have found a few websites that you can get good deals on. The one I can remember now is internettrains.com. As for brand I prefer Bachmann.
