  1. http://www.trains.com/trc/
The web site is run by Kalmbach publishing.
    Model railroading lasts a lifetime.

  2. There are a lot of sites for the models themselves, such as hobbysurplus.com, ones for Athearn, Atlas, Walthers, Model Die Casting/Roundhouse, and so on. Mail order houses such as Toy Train Heaven and others have websites too. I haven’t seen the trains.com website the other responder mentioned but I know if it’s Kalmbach it’s bound to be good.

Don’t forget that your favorite real railroad may have a group on Yahoo groups. My personal favorite is the Baltimore and Ohio group, because the B&O had a line literally a stone’s throw from our house. Norfolk and Western, Rock Island, Santa Fe, and other real railroads have their own groups too.

And there are other sites for pictures of engines, freight and passenger cars, etc. where you can make your models look more like the real thing.

So really, I don’t know if there is one best website–it depends on what you’re looking for. Good luck in your hobby and who knows? Internet railroading could be a hobby in and of itself!
